I’m glad I’m not the only one late to the party

Cory Doctorow is totally excited by Kyle Baker’s Plastic Man. But then, Doctorow is kind of excited by everything.

I like linking to his reviews of things because I typically agree (as I do in this case, of course) and he’s so much more enthusiastic about his recommendations than I am (since I usually just know how to say “it’s good, I liked it”).

(Who else dreams about the day that “The Bakers” replaces “Family Circus” in newspapers? That can’t just be me.)

Buffy Season 8 reviews

PopMatters has a pair of reviews by Jack Patrick Rodgers and Monte Williams on issues 1-4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8.

The second Minx book, Re-Gifters is out (and has been for a couple of weeks now). I thought it was just OK, which isn’t to say it was bad. It was the one I was the least interested in, although it does kind of make me want to pick up My Faith in Frankie.

Look, it’s everything I like in one neat package

For one week in July, Washington Women in Theatre is presenting Astra: The Super Heroine Manga Musical, co-written by Jerry Robinson. Eximious Press has some more details (as do some other people, but Eximious Press is local so I decided they got to be the special ones).

While $22 is more than I tend to pay for my going-out entertainment, I don’t think I can miss this one. I mean, comic books, feminism, theatre, bars with show spaces, Japan … seriously, how could I justify missing this?

Pulp Fiction

No, not the movie. D.C.’s Adamson Gallery has an exhibit of comic book-inspired art. Since the gallery’s website has scant information about it, the Washington City Paper gives more details.

It will probably make a good day-off activity for me. You know, when I actually get one of those.

I really don’t have a comment
