No Girls Allowed!01.24.07

Claire Litton has written a really great, well-researched essay for PopMatters called “No Girls Allowed!: Crumb and the Comix Counterculture.”

It’s always struck me as being disappointing when alternative cultures end up being as misogynistic as mainstream cultures.

If you want a history of women’s comics, I recommend Trina Robbins’ From Girls to Grrrlz.

Girl’s Comics from Japan01.18.07

The Japan Information and Culture Center in Washington, D.C., is hosting an exhibit of shoujo manga beginning at the end of this month. Despite the 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours, I think I can manage to get over there to see it.
