Project Rooftop
I’m a little late to this party, but Project Rooftop is fun. Illustrators and comic book artists send in their redesigns of superheroes’ costumes for critique on the site. There is good stuff here already and I look forward to seeing what else people come up with.
Newsflash! Rosario Dawson likes JTHM!
I am not hating on Dawson here, just those who happen to think it’s somehow a big deal that an attractive woman could possibly like something like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.
Unlike Kevin Smith, I do not find it shocking that a woman would have read and enjoyed something by Jhonen Vasquez. Maybe it says more about the women I tend to know than women in general, but I know more female Vasquez fans than I do male Vasquez fans (when that silly list of “comics for your girlfriend” was floating around, I actually thought Johnny would’ve been an excellent one to include).
Dawson does seem to honestly be a comic book fan (although from her choices, possibly one that shops at Hot Topic) but I’m not really surprised by them.
Yes, no, maybe?
IGN, that infinite resource for geeky males, offers up Ten Books for Your Girlfriend and it’s about what you’d expect (no, really, you think women would like Strangers in Paradise? The Sandman?). Uninspired as it may be, it’s not a bad list, either. But your girlfriend may like more than this (she may actually like Sin City) and may not like everything on it (she may not like Y: The Last Man).
And maybe your girlfriend is the one who introduces you to comics.
