We Told You So
Fantagraphics has a book coming out in the fall called Comics as Art: We Told You So about the history of the company. I like the title. Previews of the book will be released every weekend through August.
I admire Fantagraphics as a company, which isn’t quite the same as saying I’m interesting in reading most of what it produces. The book, however, from the four pages already online, makes it seem like fun and a good read and it’ll probably be something that ends up on my bookshelf.
Brand-new Boneville
Jeff Smith’s site dedicated to his work Bone and other comic projects, Boneville got a much-deserved overhaul. Smith has a blog (and anyone who starts his/her blog with a picture of a dog has my love).
I’m proud of Jeff Smith and Bone. I’m amazed at how far it’s come.
She Draws Comics
Hey, MoCCA, this may go a long way in getting me to forgive you for that whole Todd McFarlane retrospective.
Magic Trixie
This just gets a big “YAY!!!!!!!!!” from me. I think Jill Thompson deserves any and all success she can get because she’s that awesome. I’m not even going to grumble about having to wait TWO YEARS for this.
If the Harper Collins/Tokyopop deal leads to more things like this, then that’s awesome (although I don’t think this is part of the Tokyopop deal, but you know what I mean).
Colleges are teaching graphic novels! Gasp!
Not to snark about another ASAP story, but graphic novels in college courses are nothing new. My little tiny college had a class on comic books when I was there five years ago, after all (I didn’t take it because it was at 4:30 p.m., which was, well, my nap time).
(And no comments on my opinion on the term “graphic novel.”)
There will always be people who’ve just discovered comic books are another legitimate literary and/or artistic form of expression. That doesn’t mean it’s a new thing. Can we move on now?
